Kit and I want to share that we’re about to embark upon a pretty big adventure.
After dreaming for many years of retiring early and moving to Europe, we’re doing it! We’re working through the logistics of moving to a rural home just outside the medieval town of Josselin, in Brittany, France, in January.
Why? We’re interested in the slower pace of French life, with a focus on relationships and quality of life. We’re interested in the art, architecture, history, archaeology, and food. We want to live in France, rather than visit for two weeks, and have the opportunity to integrate and immerse ourselves in French culture. To be fair, we’d like to do it while we are still physically able; age creeps up on us all.
We’ll post more in the coming days about our discovery process and the logistics of putting this together. I’m actually going to dust off my dormant blog and make posts there about this move and all the joys and frustrations that come along with it.
Will we be coming back? The basic plan is to return in a few years, but we’re also honest enough to acknowledge that there is a good chance we might fall in love with living abroad (and with public health care) and choose to stay.
We are going to miss our fantastic community of family and friends very much. We’d certainly love to see folks when we can, but I know my fatal flaw is to spend all my time peopling, leaving zero time for actually accomplishing the projects I need to finish. Our focus for the remainder of the year is going to be de-cluttering, divesting, organizing, and preparing for this big transition, and we’re not going to be doing much re-enactment nor any hobby projects.
We hope to stay in touch with you all via the Internet, video calls, snail mail, and occasional travel!
A bientot!
